Ella's Daughters: Ella's Daughters is "a loose network of women who respect and admire Baker’s legacy, and are either interested in or already engaged in work that represents a continuation of her democratic, egalitarian humanistic tradition. We do not want to reinvent the wheel or duplicate or compete in any way with existing efforts. An argument can be made that the potential for a renewed progressive movement already exists and is embedded in the local trench work of organizers like Ella Baker." Feminists United: Feminists United is a student-led group at UIC sponsored by GWS. It is a community of feminists trying to reach out and educate the rest of the campus about feminism, while having a good time in a supporting environment. We do a variety of educational, activist, and other work around many different kinds of issues about or that affect women. Our purpose is to work for changes in ourselves and other individuals and to fight the social and cultural ideologies, institutions, and polices that perpetuate sexism and oppression of any and all people. Our primary intent is to work towards ending sexism in all forms through action and education. We recognize the intersection of oppressions such as racism, classism, heterosexism, ageism, xenophobia, homophobia, biphobia, gender discrimination, discrimination against intersexed people and all forms of oppression that detract from people's well-being and ability to live their lives by their own choosing.
Men Against Sexual Violence (MASV): Men Against Sexual Violence (MASV) is a student group aimed at engaging men from all communities in the fight to end male perpetrated gender violence. By hosting workshops and events we encourage men to question the negative aspects of traditional masculinity and embrace an alternative vision of manhood that is not inherently violent, sexist, or misogynistic. We also provide spaces for men to discuss issues of sexual violence and masculinity without fear of being judged, as men are not only perpetrators of sexual violence but survivors as well. In addition, MASV remains accountable to and works with women as women have been doing anti-violence work for years. This is everyone's issue and men can help stop sexual violence!
