DESCRIPTION:Join GWS for a Brown Bag with Professor Terrion L. Williamson!    Join UIC?s Gender & Women?s Studies (GWS) Program for an opportunity to learn about critical new scholarship from GWS Professor Dr. Terrion L. Williamson, Associate Professor, Black Studies and Gender and Women's Studies. She will be giving a talk titled 'Richard Pryor, Black Serial Murder, and the Making of an All-American City.'    About event: In 1940, the comedian Richard Pryor, known for his raw humor and brazen social commentary, was born in the small midwestern city of Peoria, Illinois. More than sixty years later, nine black women?any of whom might have populated the graphic storytelling that shaped Pryor?s body of work?were killed in Peoria over the course of fifteen months. In this informal talk on her work-in-progress, Professor Williamson, who was born and raised in Peoria, will discuss the relay between Pryor and the black women of Peoria who are at the heart of her forthcoming book, 'The Unreckoned: Black Women and Serial Murder in the All-American City.'    This is a GWS-centered event and a chance to build community with GWS faculty, staff, and students. Lunch will be provided. We ask that everyone masks when not eating or drinking.
