In this talk, Dr. Price introduces her theory of “crip spacetime,” which suggests that disability operates not in individual bodies but rather through relations, in specific locations, and at specific times. She argues that “disability” as it has been defined within the discipline of
Disability Studies tends to rely upon an assumption of predictability; in other words, even as we claim that disabilities are fluid and unstable, our everyday practices indicate that we expect our disabilities to be stable enough to allow us to claim rights and exercise privilege. Dr. Price reports on findings from her recent research, the “Disabled Faculty Study,” which centers the experiences of faculty who are people of color, queer, Mad, and otherwise do not fit the conventional profile of the “good disabled worker.”
