Nadine Naber, PhD, Recognized as a 2024 Freedom Scholar
Dr. Nadine Naber, Interim Director and Professor of Gender and Women’s Studies; Global Asian Studies; Anthropology has been recognized as a 2024 Freedom Scholar by the Marguerite Casey Foundation, recognizing her exceptional work on racial and gender justice. Alongside three other scholars, she will receive a $250,000 grant to further her impactful work.
For over two decades, Naber has been a leading voice on racial justice, Arab and Muslim feminisms, and activism through her work with organizations like MAMAS. At UIC, she is a professor of Gender and Women’s Studies, Global Asian Studies, and Anthropology, contributing to transformative research on social movements, decolonial processes, and motherhood in the face of systemic violence.
Nadine is the third UIC professor to receive this prestigious award, following Barbara Ransby (2020) and Beth Richie (2022).
