Dr. Dez Brown (publishing as dezireé a. brown) is a Pushcart Prize-nominated poet and interdisciplinary scholar. They are the winner of the Betty Stuart Smith Award from UIC, where they recently received their PhD in English with concentrations in Black Studies and Gender & Women's Studies. His research areas and specializations include Black poetics, game studies, intersectionality, Afropessimism, queer politics and aesthetics, Black trans studies, and women of color feminisms. They also received an MFA from Northern Michigan University, and they were recently selected as a 2024 Editor-in-Chief at The Seventh Wave Magazine to curate a digital anthology of creative writing from queer people of color focused on the video game genre. His work has appeared or is forthcoming in Foglifter Journal, Scalawag, wildness, Four Way Review, Obsidian, and the anthology A Garden of Black Joy: Global Poetry from the Edges of Liberation and Living, among others.
