Chez Rumpf is the Associate Director of Gender and Women’s Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her academic and community-based work focuses on gender, gender-based violence, incarceration, and higher education in prison. Chez is a member of Love & Protect, a volunteer collective in Chicago that supports women and gender non-conforming people of color who are criminalized or harmed by state and interpersonal violence. She earned her PhD in Sociology from Loyola University Chicago. Her book, Recovering Identity: Criminalized Women’s Fight for Dignity and Freedom, was published by the University of California Press in May 2023.
