About
Meghna Sanyal (she/her) is the Graduate Assistant for the Gender and Women’s Studies program at the University of Illinois at Chicago for 2024-25. She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Design Criticism within the Architecture department, where her work explores architecture as an evolving dialogue between built environments and their social, cultural, and theoretical implications. Her research spans diverse contemporary themes, such as Non-referential Architecture, Adhocism, the Politics of Care, New Realism, and Autonomy in Architecture, all of which invite critical inquiry into the power structures, spatial narratives, and human interactions embedded in design. With a background in architecture—including a professional license and a bachelor’s degree earned in 2021—Meghna brings a nuanced approach to exploring how language can bridge diverse fields, contextualizing architecture in broader social and cultural narratives. She is especially passionate about using graphic design as a tool for critique and creative expression. Beyond academics, Meghna is a devoted animal lover and culinary enthusiast, always eager to experiment with new recipes.
