Purpose: Gender and Women’s Studies faculty decided to launch a basic needs fund to provide undergraduate and graduate students with financial support. The fund aligns with GWS’s approach to radical collective care.

Guidelines: Depending on the availability of funds, a student can receive up to $500 in an academic year based on a single application or multiple applications. There are no restrictions on how the funds should be used once awarded.

Application and Funding Cycle: Effective academic year 2025-2026, GWS will open the Basic Needs Fund once per academic year in the spring semester. We anticipate reopening the application form in January 2027. The application form will be available at go.uic.edu/GWSBasicNeedsFund.
